About workforce modernisation

Workforce modernisation in the police service is about delivering a first-class public service.

The way the programme meets this aim is based on the work carried out by police forces, known as the "demonstration sites". These forces are testing ways of working aimed at increasing their capacity and capability.

Matching skills and tasks

After reviewing business processes and ways of working, the demonstration sites will look at how they match the skills of their people to the tasks they need to perform. This work will be systematically evaluated and made available to other forces as examples of best practice. Where benefits are identified, improvements can be introduced to maximise police effectiveness
